Piragal arrived in Scarborough as a refugee at the age of 11 with his family to start their life in Canada.
He holds a Masters degree in public policy from York University and works in the public sector specializing in policy and planning. His commitment to city building earned him the CivicAction DiverseCity Fellowship.
A recipient of the Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Ontario Volunteer Service award, Piragal is driven by a passion to build up his community. He has served in many roles in charitable and non-profit organizations, including the United Way Toronto-York Region, the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation and the Canadian Tamil Congress, where he was an outspoken advocate for refugees and New Canadians, promoting inclusion and acceptance of newcomers.
Piragal and his wife Mathangi are raising their family in the Middlefield neighbourhood.
