Meaningful collaboration with community and stakeholders is at the core of the work that SCRO does, and an essential part of striving to be a strong, unified voice for Scarborough. The Scarborough Renewal Campaign carried out by the Rotary Clubs in Scarborough was entirely community led and brought together residents, community groups and businesses to collectively engage in the renewal activities well into the future. SCRO is committed to being an inclusive organization that represents Scarborough’s diversity with respect to ethnicity, socio-economic status, age, gender and occupation. We will strive to build relationships with Scarborough residents, organizations and stakeholders to work and learn together to create and realize bold visions to collaboratively Renew Scarborough.
In addition to working closely with SCRO’s Renewal Committees to achieve our objectives in the area of outreach and events, we also:
- Identify outreach opportunities to share our vision. We shall continue to take advantage of opportunities to raise our profile in Scarborough. For example, having our SCRO booth on display at events such as Canada Day and Ribfest is an ideal way to share our mission and vision for Scarborough, and recruit new members.
- Organize SCRO fundraisers. As a new not-for-profit organization, we are dependent on fundraising for our administrative operations and events. To allow us to reach our full potential, we need to fundraise through events and sponsorship.
- Host events to engage community and stakeholders in Scarborough renewal. SCRO continually strives to create opportunities for meaningful collaboration with community members and stakeholders around critical elements of Scarborough Renewal. In December, 2016 we hosted our inaugural “Building the Workforce of Tomorrow” series of events to lay the foundation to create economic opportunities and jobs in Scarborough. Developing regional strategies to address this area will continue to be a focus as new development opportunities arise through increased investment in Scarborough’s transit system.
- Engage youth in Scarborough renewal. Our committee is seeking opportunities to involve youth in Scarborough Renewal. Collaboratively with Centennial College and Trailblazers, in 2016 we launched the Scarborough Entrepreneur Leadership Launchpad “SELL” to give youth an opportunity to learn from successful Scarborough entrepreneurs.
